CANUCS/Technicolor Data Release 1: Imaging, Photometry, Slit Spectroscopy, and Stellar Population Parameters
Sarrouh et al. 2025
This is the first data release (DR1) of the CAnadian NIRISS Unbiased Cluster Survey (CANUCS), a JWST Cycle 1 GTO program targeting 5 lensing clusters and their adjacent flanking fields in parallel (Abell 370, MACS0416, MACS0417, MACS1149, MACS1423). CANUCS covers a total survey area of ~ 100 square arcminutes using a unique combination of NIRCam imaging, NIRISS slitless spectroscopy, and NIRSpec prism multi-object spectroscopy. Fields centered on galaxy cluster cores include imaging in 7 wide and 1 medium band from 0.9 - 4.4 microns, alongside continuous NIRISS coverage from 1.15 - 2.0 microns, while the NIRCam flanking fields provide 5 wide and 9 medium band filters for exceptional spectral sampling, all to ~29 - 30 mag.
This release also contains photometry from the JWST in Technicolor program, a Cycle 2 follow-up GO program targeting 3 of the CANUCS clusters (Abell 370, MACS0416, MACS1149). Technicolor adds 8 wide, medium, and narrow band filters to the flanking fields. This provides photometry with all available wide and medium band NIRCam filters over~ 30 square arcmin.
This release contains all NIRCam, NIRISS, and HST imaging, PSFs and PSF-matched imaging, photometric catalogs, photometric and spectroscopic redshifts. We also provide lens models and stellar population parameters in up to 19 filters for ~ 53,000 galaxies in the cluster fields, and ~44,000 galaxies in up to 29 filters in the flanking fields. The release also contains 747 NIRSpec spectra and redshift measurements up to z=10.8. To quantify the quality of our photometric redshifts we compare against a sample of spectroscopically-confirmed sources and achieve sigma_NMAD of 0.03 and 0.01 in the cluster and flanking fields respectively, with outlier rates of only~ 7% and ~ 4%.
